“‘But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins’- he said to the paralytic- ‘I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.'” Mark 2:10-11
Christmas. The birth of the Lord’s Christ. Christmas. Far more than just the beginning of an amazing story. This is the beginning of God Almighty breaking into the history of our world. Breaking into the creation He forged so many generations before. Breaking into our lives to bring goodness and healing! It all starts with the forgiveness of sins and moves out into every aspect of our lives.
We’ve made our share of poor choices. We’ve done things we regret, said things we wish we could take back, and neglected to act when our actions were undeniably needed. We’ve failed as parents, failed as workers, failed as neighbors, failed as people. Still the Christ of Christmas breaks into our lives of disappointment and disappointing and forgives you completely and absolutely! And with forgiveness comes a healing you didn’t even know you needed! The forgiveness that Christ gives melts away all your doubts and fears and hard-heartedness.
Only God has authority to do something of this magnitude! The Good News of Christmas is that God is the One coming to you in Jesus Christ! Jesus is God in the flesh! Jesus is one-hundred percent for you! He’s on your team and will stop at nothing to bring about the healing you desperately need to move forward in your life. The healing you need to stop surviving and start living!
Jesus would even go so far as to lay down His life if it meant saving yours. Christmas is the coming of the One who in fact has laid down His life because it means saving yours! Christmas is a time of hope and love and joy and peace because these are sure and certain promises for you!
“O Jesus, very Light of Light,
Our constant star in sin’s deep night:
Now hear the prayers Your people pray
Throughout the world this holy day.
