“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!'” Luke 2:13-14
When God sends an angel, it means He’s doing something amazing! Just think what it means if He sends a lot of angels! And out in the open field to a handful of working class men resting from a hard day’s labor of tending the sheep, God sent hundreds, maybe even thousands of angels! You see, the greatest thing in all of history had just happened a short distance from that all but abandoned field. God’s messengers came conveying the greatest message to ever be proclaimed throughout all of history – a Savior is born in the City of David! A Savior is born who is Christ the Lord!
The message of those numerous heavenly beings rings throughout history to this very night as the news reaches our ears! The brightness of the angels shines through the years and lights our modest gathering of faithful ones who are waiting on the Lord’s Christ! Christ the Lord was born into this world, news so great it could only be heralded and proclaimed by the angelic host. Still better news for us sinners, Christ the Lord, the One who was dead but was raised from the dead. Christ the Lord, the One who overcame the power of sin, the power of death, the power of Satan himself. Christ the Lord is here for you tonight!
Angels guard over you tonight as they watch the effect their priceless and timeless message has on you who hear it! Christ Himself calls out to you asking you to believe. Believe the miracle. Believe the angels. Believe the shepherds who saw for themselves. Believe Mary and Joseph who raised the boy in their home. Believe the disciples and Apostles who were there throughout His ministry. Believe the countless people who were healed of their afflictions, comforted in their Lord, forgiven of their sins. Believe the Lord Himself, for He has not just come into the world, He has come for you!
“Hail, the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail, the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris’n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”
