“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.” Ephesians 6:14-15
There have been times throughout history when common men and women were called upon to do uncommon things. David stood up to Goliath. Martin Luther stood up to the Pope. The Giants defeated the mighty, 18-0 Patriots to win Superbowl XLII (being a fan of the Patriots, it actually hurts to include this one). That foolhardy kid from your childhood who stood up to the school bully. All situations in which the call for heroism was issued and a brave few accepted.
If you are a Christian, you have been called to bold, brave, and undauntable service to your Lord! Jesus has called you up, raised you up, and built you up to serve as His ambassador. As such, belted with His truth, protected by His righteousness, and walking in the Light provided by His Gospel, you march forward to do battle against the darkness that envelopes our time. Gospel Light is a beaming beacon that melts cold hearts, heals broken relationships, encourages hopeless ones, and brightens dark and dismal districts of our hearts.
Service to Jesus is a truly heroic undertaking! To take up your weapons. To stand your ground. To engage the enemy. To win!
The call has been issued . . . will you accept it? Will you stand with Jesus and fight? Will you heed the call? May the Lord strengthen you to do it.
“Fight the good fight with all your might;
Christ is your strength, and Christ your right.
Lay hold on life, and it shall be
Your joy and crown eternally.”
Fight the Good Fight, (Lutheran Service Book, 664)
