You shall know that I am the Lord when I open your graves and raise up O my people. Ezekiel 37:13
The enigmatic eyeful of Ezekiel in which myriad dried up and useless bones came rattling back together, ultimately taking flesh and spirit and standing before him as a stout force few could fight, imbeds itself nicely in the mind’s eye. How do you suppose Ezekiel felt? He was the one commanded to speak to the bones. To the good-for-nothing stack of skeletons, Ezekiel shouted God’s Word. Then life! New life to long dead men!
Let this be of great comfort to you. God, through His prophet and a word, raised out of the graves countless men. In Christ, He raises you and me to life! New life to men and women long dead in our broken attempts to make our own way. Speaking across time and space, our dead ears hear the wakeup call of a prophet and live!
Jesus, call the dead to life in your word. Amen.
