Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable prize, but we an imperishable. 1 Corinthians 9:25
Hearts are fascinating contrivances. Your heart can miss a beat should just the right person look at you and smile; become aflame with elation at the gentle embrace of one truly loved; swell to twice its normal size upon receiving genuine gratitude for a job well-done. What amazing things our hearts are. From the heart comes sincerity and love. Hearts enjoy, rejoice, and give joy.
To capture your heart as a precious prize, with all self-controll Jesus ran His race. Knowing you were the prize, He bore the betrayal, allowed the arrest, tolerated the trial, braved the beatings, carried His cross, took the torture, suffered the slander, and underwent an untimely demise. Doesn’t this just warm your heart? To know that this is how much Someone loves you! From His heart, Jesus gives you His imperishable love.
Jesus, thank you for loving me; my heart is yours. Amen.
