Sorrow Carrier

Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. Isaiah 53:4

Too often, in a feeble attempt to “leave the past behind”, we pretend that everything in the present is perfectly fine. The problem is that the past never stays put. The things that happen to us, the griefs we bear, the pain we’ve felt remain with us. They won’t magically go away no matter how much we ignore them. Certainly we can muddle through, maybe even convince ourselves we’ve “dealt with it”. Yet the slightest reminder can send you right back to the grief you carry.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Although you can’t magically make pain disappear, Jesus offers to carry them for you. Once gone, they are no longer yours. He will never return them to you. If you are interested in laying down your grief, share it with a trusted pastor or therapist, even a good friend. Lay it down. Pray Jesus takes it from you.

Jesus, take my grief and sorrows. Amen.

  1. I think that our grief is not something that goes away or is “dealt with”. It just becomes part of who we are. Jesus carries us when it overwhelms us, but He doesn’t take the pain away.
