Whoever lacks faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love is so near-sighted that he is blind. 2 Peter 1:3-9
Nearly blinding is a hastily flipped light switch in the middle of the night. Reality slowly snaps back as your mind drifts from dreamland and your eyes adjust to see who has spoiled your slumber. Fading fantasies from moments ago bleed into the real world before you.
Equally disorienting for sinners like me is the sheer goodness given by God. Burning with benevolence, the Lord loves. So bright is this love that it literally takes my near-sighted, dark-loving eyes time to adjust. Reality in Christ gradually reveals itself to be something far better than ever dreamed possible. Reality so incredibly amazing that it leads to brotherly affection, godliness, steadfastness, self-control, knowledge, and faith. In Jesus, look around at the world He has given you. Family and friends. House and home. Peace and comfort. All gifts from God’s graciously loving hands.
Jesus, thank you for your amazing love. Amen.
