Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:24
Crucifixion was never meant to be pretty. Quite the contrary. Ugly and demented as the cruel minds of ancient terrorists could devise, nailing an offender to a cross was meant to be both excruciating and humiliating. Completely exposed for anyone who should pass by, a man was crucified and displayed to keep people in line. Crucified, God’s Son has been brought as low as possible. For a Christian, His miserable death means the death of our sinful corruption.
Those who belong to Jesus have had their flesh crucified. It’s certainly not pretty, but with crucified flesh, all our sins are exposed to the One to whose cross we turn for comfort. Forgiven. Cleansed. Your sinful flesh with all its passions and desires toward sin has been replaced with Jesus’, freshly resurrected from the dead. You are restored through the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.
Jesus, crucify my sinful desires and forgive me. Amen.
