Perishables

The wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Psalm 1:5-6

When I planted my two apple trees last year, I did so with the expectation that it will produce apples. That’s a reasonable prospect since that is exactly what apple trees are supposed to do. They don’t produce bananas or raspberries or chokecherries. Apple trees produce apples. The good ones are kept; the bad ones are quickly discarded.

So it is with all God’s creatures. You and I are created to produce love. Not anger or wrath or malice. People produce love. When we produce something other than love, it’s called sin. Thanks be to God, when we produce bad fruit, we are not quickly discarded, but miraculously made fresh. Bad parts removed, leaving behind only good. Jesus has taken our bad and left us with His good.

Jesus, keep me pure and holy. Amen.
