Jesus rose from supper, laid aside His outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around His waist. He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet. John 13:4-5
If they believed, even for a moment, that Jesus was in fact the Son of God, this had to have been one of the most strangely humbling experiences of the twelve men’s lives. The God of creation stooping down to wash the dust of the day from their weary feet. What a reversal of how it should be. They should be serving Him. Yet here was Jesus washing their feet.
Jesus is the One who has humbled Himself. Doing everything necessary to clean up the lives of God’s children who’ve lost our way. Searching high and low through mud and muck, coming to our rescue as the Savior that He is. There is no greater love shown to you than that which flows from Jesus. In this love you are made clean.
Jesus, make me clean. Amen.
