Jesus said to His disciples, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; it shall not be so among you.” Mark 10:42-43
There’s really nothing quite like a boss on a power trip. Issuing decrees from on high for no other reason than because he can and because you must listen. If you’d like an exercise in pointlessness, attempt calling him out. Let him know how his demands are unreasonable. Go ahead. But don’t expect anything less than more mindless work in response.
The dominion of the Lord, however, is altogether different. Never domineering, Jesus burdens Himself with every affliction and aggravation that comes your way. He is the Lord of your life, but in sharp contradistinction to the lords of our world, He has become servant of all. Serving and revealing the holy image of God’s love in His cross death. Loving, He hears your confession and forgives completely. Jesus is your Lord.
Jesus, thank you for your care and forgiveness. Amen.
