Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” Luke 1:34
Taking the miracle out of the miraculous is a popular sport. “God couldn’t have created everything in six days.” “Moses and crew couldn’t have walked through the Red Sea.” “Mary wasn’t a virgin when Christ was conceived, but rather a maiden.”
We’re talking about God. The Creator of the laws of nature showing us He has every right to bend the rules sometimes. Dead not staying dead. Graves not staying full. Wrongs being righted. Prophecies being fulfilled. And a virgin becoming pregnant outside the natural way. A virgin carrying her baby to full term. A virgin giving birth to her firstborn, the Son of Almighty God. A virgin did this. “Virgins can’t become pregnant.” “Impossible.”
Not for the God of miracles. Mary believed the angel announcing this miracle. Trusting her God, she replied, “Let it be done to me as you have said.”
Lord Jesus, give us faith to believe what you promise. Amen.
