Living in the Shadows

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

Living in the shadows of another implies you’re not allowed to live to your full potential. To what heroic heights would Robin™ have ascended if not under Batman’s™ wing? Would DJ Jazzy Jeff have been more of a sensation if not for his early partnership with Will Smith? Then again, where would Burt be without Ernie? Or Teller without Penn?

Imagine if Jesus had decided He would no longer live under the shadow of His Father. The prayer in the Garden, “Thy will be done”, would have quickly been followed by a great escape to rival that of Andy Dufresne™ from the Shawshank State Penn. Instead, Jesus both lived His life and faced His death in the shadow of His Father. And He and all who come after Him are far better for it. The Father raised Him from death.

Jesus, bring me securely into the shadow of your Father.

    • Thanks Shelly. As counter-cultural as it may seem, under the shadow of the Lord is the place we truly find who we are meant to be: Christians – people broken beyond repair miraculously put back together by Jesus!
