Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom. 1 Corinthians 1:22
Natural as it seems for us to want a little evidence to support a claim, all the Lord provides is an old rugged cross. Customary as we’ve made it to look for lofty learning, what Christians preach is a message of a Messiah who suffered much and seemingly lost all. How little sense this must make to a world drunk on its own ostentation.
Today, let’s take a moment to stand in silent awe of this mystery: that the cross of Christ for some means true and profound wisdom, while for others the same sign is sheer foolishness. Take heart and give thanks that you have been called, gathered, and enlightened by the Holy Spirit through the power of the Word of God. Fear not the anger and wrath of those who reject the Truth. In patience and love share your great hope.
Lord, strengthen my faith in You and Your cross, foolish though my world may believe it to be. Amen.
