Kept in peace

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in You.  Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.”   (Isaiah 26:3)

Who wouldn’t want perfect peace? Sign me up! What do I need to do? What are the ten steps to this perfectly peaceful life?  Except that Isaiah doesn’t give me some secret formula, meditative process, or to-do list for achieving peace. He simply shows us who we can depend on. Isaiah makes a clear connection between peace and trust.

You can trust the Lord because, like the North Star, He’s the one constant in an ever-changing world. Your “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6) is also your “Everlasting Rock.”  You can count on Him and His promises!  His loving, gracious, and forgiving heart is “stayed” on you, and that’s Good News for us who struggle to stay focused in trusting the Lord.

Lord, help me to rest in the peace of knowing that You love me forever in Christ Jesus. Amen.
