We ask you brothers to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you, and esteem them very highly in love because of their work.
(1 Thessalonians 5:12-13a)

Pastors are special gifts from the Lord. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I’m God’s gift to humanity. We pastors certainly each have our annoying foibles and eccentricities. There’s no question we each struggle with our own sins. But setting that aside and considering simply the office of pastor, we have a tremendous gift! Like a best friend who’s not afraid to tell us like it is, pastors preach the law, condemning our sins. Good pastors don’t allow us to wallow in wrongfulness. And like the foremost physicians in the country, pastors offer deep healing. Good pastors preach Jesus to their people. They don’t just talk about the Gospel; they bear the Gospel and shine its precious light on our lives.

Dear Jesus, thank you for speaking to us through your chosen pastors. Amen.
